CAL U HOSTS TRAINING ON MILITARY MENTAL HEALTH

California University of Pennsylvania will host a live stream of the National Day of Training: Educating the Next Generation of Mental Health Professionals about Military Mental Health on April 7 in the Convocation Center.

The all-day conference, from Washington, D.C., is being organized by Give an Hour, which provides counseling to troops, families and community members affected by the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. Space is limited. Please RSVP to 724-938-4053.

Schedule of events

-       8-8:30 a.m.: Registration

-       8:30-9 a.m.: Conference opening

-       9-9:55 a.m.: The impact of war on the children of those who serve

-       10:15-11:10 a.m.: The use of technology to support those who serve and their families

-       11:15 a.m.-12:10 p.m.: The role of corporate partners in addressing the invisible wounds of war

-       12:30-1:30 p.m.: Lunch provided

-       1:30-1:45 p.m.: Message from U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, of Ohio

-       1:45-2:40 p.m.: Non-traditional approaches to healing

-       2:45-3:40 p.m.: The power of art in the healing process

-       4-5 p.m.: Screening of A Matter of Duty by Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Charles Stuart

Continuing education credits

Give and Hour is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education credits for psychologists. The full day is worth five hours/continuing education units.
